I’ve been going throuhg the configuration of my own SBS 2003 R2 and I found Sharepoint services very interesting. In fact I’ve been through sharepoint services many times but this is the first time I’m doing it for my own. Yes never got the chance to it for my own. Sharepoint services installed during the typical setup of SBS2003 R2 setup and I just need to leanr the product to make the use of this website or I better call it Intranet website or it can be named as Company internal website.A website where you can communicate and collaborate with your organization / employees in real-time. It is very easy and very productive product and can be used in any ways. You have to know and learn how can you make the use of sharepoint services. Sharepoint services does come along with Windows Server 2003 also and it is same. Here I’ll walk through the very few things of sharepoint but I’ll keep on updating as long as I get the time to publish the blog.
The picture below shows the main page of your Company website i.e. http://companyweb
On the left hand side you will find Documents, Pictures, List,Dicussions and Surveys. And on the main you will see Announcements. These are the main features which are showing the meaning itself.
PIC -2 below
In the picture below you will see General Documents where you can create a new document, upload an existing document, create a new folder,Filter the file, you can edit the document in the Datasheet.
PIC-3 below
Here you will find an a new uploaded document ‘managed services marketing letter’. You can Edit, Delete, Discuss and take the properties of this document. You can also view the version history of this document too.
PIC -4 Document versioning
Here you will see 2 documents “A small business server” and “Managed services marketing letter”. One these documents has three version. Look at the PIC-5. Click the image to enlarge

PIC-5 – Document versioning
if you look at the picture below you will find THREE Versions of the same documents at different times. This is the feature I like most in the Sharepoint. This way my original file still remains the same while other users still edit the file and it never over writes. Bingo . Try it yourself.

Adnan Rafik 24 Nov 2007 | : Virtualization
MS Virtualization from Datacenter to Desktops
What was the session about?
Technical –
it was about isolation of products
running different OS on top of Host OS
better performance and robustness
better managing the IT infrastructure
running different versions of same application on the same desktop at the same time
Managerial -
reducing downtime
less resources more productivity
less space required for the data center
less power consumption, better use of CPU/Memory etc
saving Total Cost of Ownership
better license utilization
There is much more to know. Wole was outstanding and his session gave me a new roadmap to my consultancy and to help other IT decision makers to show them how important is VITUALIZATION now.
Wole did the demo during the session which was the most interesting thing for me, since I saw myself running two versions of MS Access i.e. MS Access 2000 and MS Access 2007. This was achieved by the technology called Sandbox. I know I’m missing so many things now but I need to recall and write it again.
He also talked about Virtualization of Windows Terminal services thus for Citrix too. He also talked about different layers of Virtualization and how does it work, what steps are included and what exactly is the design. He gave some points during the session where a smart IT manager can better utilize the product licenses. He also talked about the hosted application through virtualization.
Thanks Wole see you again.

WSUS, nothing new. Yes it is Windows Software Update Services 2.0 released with R2 long time back and version 3.0 is also available. I’ve been configuring on WSUS 2.0 in SBS 2003 R2 thought I should with you. WSUS helps to push the patch across the network to make the job easier for an IT guy. If you manage network 10-70 computers then this is perfect for you and you should not wait anymore. Just do it and make your life easier, thus implement PATCH MANAGEMENT.
The above pictures shows the Update Services in SBS 2003 R2 Server Management. You can see the status here that what updates are waiting for review and what needs to be installed. It also shows the Update Services Setting which actually shows you the time to automatically push the updates on a scheduled time
Here you can see the updates waiting for Review. You right click on each and every individual updates view it and approve it as necessary. Once it is approved then it will be pushed to the desktops on the network on a pre-configured schedule time.
Here you can see more details and description of the updates..
Finally, this is a screen capture of one of the desktops where updates haven been deployed automatically once it was approved.
Note : updates can be deployed automatically when there is an update but in my case I do approve the updates manually and then it gets to the network desktops.
Cheers
