What is DIVE DEEPER?

Adnan Rafik 26 Dec 2007 | : Events

DIVE DEEPER must be a new word for the IT Pro of Dubai and Gulf Region but it’s been around for a couple of year in Europe. DIVE DEEPER is another step to grow your career in the dynamic changing world of IT. Today we need to learn fast in a short span of time which is not possible to learn if you plan to do it ourselves, so there come DIVE DEEPER. DIVE DEEPER is 100% pure technical event/session for the IT Pro run by IT Pro and there is no marketing for any product like other events. DIVE DEEPER has been very successful in the Europe and now planning to do the same in MEA.

This is the very first time that DIVE DEEPER training is coming to Dubai UAE with a big team of international IT GURUS (MVP/MCT/Experts). This event will be more than a training event where you will meet the industry experts and get the chance for networking with peer IT Pros.

The good thing is that DIVE DEEPER team has seriously considered working with the user groups i.e. TECHIES (www.techiesonly.com) in Dubai UAE and ASP-PC (www.ask-pc.com) in Cairo Egypt.

We want this event to be a success for the success of IT Pro and this is just a start to bring the international expert into the local IT industry.

Are you a Geek Girl?

Adnan Rafik 19 Dec 2007 | : IT Pro

Are you a geek girl? Are you the one who is passionate about technology? Are you the one who want to share learning about the technology? I didn’t see as many girls in IT as I have seen in KL Malaysia when I was there to attend TechEd SEA2007. There was a specially organized forum for the girls and there were more than 200 girls, yes the IT Pro girls… ….

I was going through the Maria’s website and found information about Women in IT which can be helpful to you if are a GEEK GIRL.

If you one of those girls and based in UAE then do contact me to bring the same concept here.

What is TechNet Edge?

Adnan Rafik 18 Dec 2007 | : IT Pro

I’ve been waiting since a long time to see a website for IT Pro just like Channel 9 (for developer). I had been accessing Channel 9 to watch the interviews and videos of the Microsoft Products team people, the one who really works behind the scene and we hardly see them in any technical event. For me Channel9 has been a great source of information but most of their contents are for the developer community, this is what exactly channel 9 is.  Now we have the same source of information for IT Pro i.e. TechNet Edge.

TechNet Edge is a place where IT professionals go to get the inside scoop on the latest and greatest technologies. You can do stuff like watch screen casts check out interviews with people who develop the products, connect with your peers and speak what’s on your mind. It is part of the Evangelism Network and follows its doctrine, so you know we keep it real.

 Cheers :)

SCE07 on SBS200R2

Adnan Rafik 12 Dec 2007 | : SCE07

If you are planning to install SCE07 on a SBS2003 R2 server either for testing or production then you will face many problems, even though Microsoft officially support the SCE07 on SBS2003 R2 but the installation is not that simple. In other words it can said that I’d not implement SCE2007 on top of SBS 2003 R2 to get the benefits of SCE07 while putting yourself in more trouble.

If you are implementing SCE07 on the same server of SBS2003 R2 then you will have to remove the self-signed certificates which are normally installed by Exchnage2003 in a SBS box. So it means you will have to remove all the certificates related OWA, OMA etc.

So in my case I’m implementing SCE07 on a separate Windows Server 2003 Std. which is a member server of SBS2003 R2.

If you want to hear more about SCE07 do visit again, where as SCE07 is System Center Essentials 2007.

Checking for pending reboots in SCE07

Adnan Rafik 11 Dec 2007 | : SCE07

If you are doing an installation of SCE07 on SBS2003 R2 then you may get this error (checking for pending reboots) at the beginning of the installation. This error occurs only and when you are doing the installation through Remote Desktop. To avoid this error and save your time logon to the server physically then re-start the server and re-run the setup.

An Eye on Exchange07

Adnan Rafik 10 Dec 2007 | : Exchange07

direct to the point …

This product is totally different if compared to EX03. The design is very good and it can be deployed to SMB and the Enterprises. In fact new modifications or improvements are done specifically for the Enterprise but SMB will also get the benefit. The ideal scenario of Exchange 07At least 2 servers if you are looking for messaging, I’m not talking about UC (unified messaging).

If you want to have email access anytime anywhere, enrich outlook, OWA, Active-sync etc, you gotta have to put 2 servers at least. One should be an Edge Transport server and the other will be running Mailbox, Client Access and Hub Transport Server.

Yes few new terms with very extensive features. Do keep in mind that EX07 has been designed not to face the Internet to reduce the security and provide more safe of communication. EX07 Edge Transport Server can be a part of your DC or can be a standalone server at the perimeter. It gives you anti-spam and anti-virus capabilities if installed.

Different roles of Ex07

Mailbox
Client Access
Edge Transport Server
Hub Transport Server
Unified Messaging

Sender ID Framework SPF Record Wizard

Adnan Rafik 07 Dec 2007 | : Security

I’ve been through Exchange 07 documentation and implementation and I came across Sender ID Framework. Sender ID Framework is basically a verification system to reduce spam and increase online safety. This framework is designed by different companies including Microsoft. If you are interested to know more about it visit the url below

British Computer Society (BCS) Middle East

Adnan Rafik 05 Dec 2007 | : IT Pro

For a couple of year I’ve been looking for some IT related forum or a body where people from the same industry talk about IT. The life is very different in UAE because of different people from different. This different people and different culture can be a good benefit to all of us if we are connected with a social networking platform.

I’ll not prefer a join a social network event where people talk about medicine or mechanical engineering rather I’d prefer a technology forum or an IT forum specifically. I’d prefer to meet the people from same industry where we can talk about the technology, thought sharing and many other things. Everyone will have interest for this kind of forum or meeting.

I was unable to find this type of activity in Dubai so I decided to start my own i.e. TECHIES and it took me more than two years where I’m today. TECHIES is the only platform where many IT Pro (IT MANAGERS, SYSTEMS ENGINEERS etc) are connected with each other.

I was also looking for a standard body which promotes IT, since I’m a member of IEEE for almost 10 years but I didn’t find IEEE much involved in IT, as IEEE have more than 35 societies and one of them is Computer Society.  Again there were not enough events or meeting what I’ve been looking for but I was recommended by one of the IEEE member to join BCS.

Now I’m quite ok with BCS and they are deriving the IT Professionalism in UAE since I met the chairman and other members and found them very enthusiastic. They are very clear what they want to achieve and they are doing event actively in the emirates, which a good sign in the future.

There is a lot to talk on BCS since they match the same idea what I’ve in my mind and have been doing it for a couple of years and I think now the time has come to accelerate the process of IT Professionalism in the region.

I’d recommend you to join BCS and be a part of it. And don’t forget to check the BCS website for more information.
