Dear reader, the most awaited event from Microsoft Gulf is over now in Dubai. It was started on March 9th from the capital of UAE and ended here in Dubai yesterday March 27th 2008. The event was very well organized and the venue was very good i.e. madiant jumeriah. I couldn’t attend the whole event but was there early morning to attend the keynote speaking session done by Eric Rudder from Redmond and followed by a couple of technical product manager. Technical product manager possible did the level 100-200 sort of demos which got the attention of the delegates. As we know the launch product for this year are Windows Server 2008, MS SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008. Nice demos were done on these products and one Hero was selected from this region and he was given away the Xbox. The event was crowded and more than 1,000 delegates attended the event. And yes not to forget here there were nice ladies took the pictures of every delegate under the banner of HHH.

Lately I’ve been through the BCS weekly e-zine and came across this article which got my attention. As we know and practice on virtual pc and server now it seems people go for certified virtual professionals. VMWare have already started one of the certification VCP. I’d recommend you to read the full article.

CLV – Country Lead Volunteer. This is a new volunteer position by Culminis to pick one CLV from the region, so am I J. Last month I got the chance to meet Sanjay Shetty from his busy schedule flying from France to Dubai for a short period. We discussed many things in details how-to improve the community work in the region and how Culminis can help the user group. What Culminis is thinking, what is the future of user group with Culminis? He gave me positive answers and I hope in the future I’ll see those answers in action.
Culminis has come up with a 5 new core services, they have re-structured their model to support the community and soon we will see the result of this new design. The point I always raise is that there is lack of support or coordination between the user groups and the vendors. If the user group get find a way to get connected with the vendors then 50% of the job is done and it will also help the vendors. I also mentioned that the senior management like CIO, CTO, CFO and IT manager they still don’t know the value of user groups and IT communities. They are not aware of it and the question is who will bring it in their notice. There must a way. Every culture is different do does the UAE is.

For more detailed CLV details please read THE VOICE, a monthly publication from Culminis.
Cheers : Adnan Rafik CLV.

A few days back I got one email from Microsoft. At first instance I was shocked and forwarded the email to people at Microsoft. And after few days it was confirmed that it was a SCAM. I was shocked that why would Microsoft award me 900,000.00 (nine hundred thousand) British pound J . I wish I could. So beware of and don’t get cheated.

Have a look at the url below and you will see Microsoft initiative to make PowerShell better than ever.
I think the date is almost over but in the future you can stay connected and make the use of this opportunity and have first hand knowledge.

So far I’ve been asked from peers members and seen myself that there is not support to SYNC the Calendar between Office Outlook 2007 and Groove 2007. Let say if you have your existing Calendar in Office Outlook 2007 then you can import is to the Groove or vice versa. This is really killing but I’ve found a 3rd party tool which claims they support this feature. I’m evaluating the product and soon as I’ll do my hands-on it . I’ll update the blog.
